Notre Dame School Scene of Sexual Abuse by Past Principal

Notre Dame School Continues to Ignore Appeals for Help from Sexual Abuse Victim

Sisters of St. Ursula Refuse to Help One of “Their Own”

What:               A demonstration and leafleting alerting parents of students at Notre Dame School

that sexual abuse by a nun occurred at the school.  Parents will be told that Notre Dame School is ignoring the victim of sexual abuse whose name is Cecilia Springer, age 82.

When:              Thursday afternoon, September 19, 2013 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM

Where:             On the sidewalk outside Notre Dame School, 327 West 13th Street, New York,

NY, 10014.

Who:                Cecilia Springer, age 82, a survivor of sexual abuse at Notre Dame School; members of

Road to Recovery, Inc., a non-profit charity that assists victims of sexual abuse; supporters and friends.

Why:                When 82 year-old Cecilia Springer was a student at age 14 at Notre Dame School in the

late 1940s, her Principal, Sr. Mary Andrew, SU, also known as Sr. Frances Doyle, sexually abused her on more than one occasion when she was 14 years of age.  Several months ago, Cecilia Springer reported the sexual abuse she endured to the school administration, its Board of Trustees, officials of the Sisters of St. Ursula, and their attorneys.  They told Cecilia Springer, a sexual abuse victim and a former nun, to “take a hike.”  They refuse to help this sexual abuse victim and senior citizen live a more stress-free life.

Tonight at Notre Dame’s “back-to-school” events for parents, officials of the

school and the Sisters of Saint Ursula will speak about the wonderful things that are being done for young women at the school.  What they will not be told is:  1) a former nun Principal of Notre Dame School sexually abused more than one girl at the school; and, 2) the school and the Sisters of St. Ursula will not help one of the nun’s victims, Cecilia Springer, an 82 year-old woman whose life has been adversely affected for nearly seventy years as a result of the sexual abuse she endured.
